Most days, NYC is my playground. Today I remember it's actually a huge metropolis. NYC websites like Gothamist are reporting a shooting that's only 2 blocks from my office in front of the Empire State Building. The Daily News is reporting the shooting was between co-workers. The Associated Press is reporting the gunman is dead.

Just a reminder to all my Smartypanties to be vigilant and always pay attention to what's going on around you! I know I am guilty myself of getting lost in my iPod but turn that volume just a little down! Love you ladies!

A couple years back the FTC decided to create the blurring guidelines for bloggers, stating that we must disclose what products we get for free when reviewing anything so as not to mislead our readers. I thought that was all fine and good. A bit silly considering that when you work at a magazine they send you over a lotion in a Gucci bag so that you will feature it and that never has to be disclosed, but I was fine telling my readers when I received something for free because it did seem to make sense. Now, Doctors are likely going to have to do the same! They are going to have to disclose financial relationships with pharmaceutical companies. This will hopefully lead to more honest medical care. How scary is that!? Your doctors may be getting paid thousands or even  millions of dollars a year to endorse a drug that they prescribe you and you never legally had the right to know this before! Seems silly that the law would have gone after bloggers first, is it just me? A bit more on the line with doctors…

I just read a super interesting article in the New York Times. It seems as if any day now we may have ways to tell (other than just suspecting that all celebs really do in fact have dark circles under their eyes) if a picture has been photoshopped. And in some countries it appears that they may require companies to disclose the level to which a photo has been altered! Check out the New York Times article to find out more! I think this would be a huge step in the right direction! Talk about unrealistic expectations! Not only do celebs have all day to primp and pamper but they have the ultimate workout and anti-aging tool–PHOTOSHOP! 

For the past year I have been the subject of endless tirades from angry meat eating friends telling me that I won't be as healthy if I cut meat and dairy out of my diet. Well to all of you I'd just like to say that although I have sat idly by and accepted that I will never change your minds (even though I know I'm right) here is proof in the Huffington Post explaining why you don't need animal protein to stay strong, why you don't need milk to have healthy bones and why you can get your omega 3's without eating fish!

I will be just as strong and healthy as my other vegan friends the Elephant and the Gorilla–and meat free! Read 'em and weep all you carnivores out there!
