Bliss Spa: Triple Oxygen Facial Review
Feb 27, 2011 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Beauty
How was my triple oxygen facial today at Bliss with Jamie Sanders from the Beauty of Life Blog? There are no other words to say other than the apropos, Bliss. Considering that I tout myself as a beauty expert, I shamefully had never been to Bliss 49 for their famed Triple Oxygen Facial. I was beyond thrilled when Bliss asked me to come in an try one out. The second I met Jamie it was clear that she was a veteran so I zoned out as they instructed me how to close my locker. We were given robes and slippers and then directed to a lounge for some relaxation time (we got there super early to goss and catch up). We snacked on cucumber slices, lemon water, olives, brownies, cheese and crackers. Divine. I would have been happy just doing that.

After a while my therapist, Aura, came and collected me from my buffet I had arranged with Jamie. The treatment room was white and crisply clean, like the rest of the spa. The heated bed immediately relaxed me. I also loved the music, which was a collection of soft pop and classic standards instead of the typical elevator music.

The facial starts off with a cleanse and quick exfoliation, there is also some alpha hydroxy and a couple of masks. My favorite part is that instead of leaving the room or sitting in the room in awkward silence, during the time the masks are left on your face, your therapist gives you a brief head, hand and foot massage, which feel divine (it also distracts you from any tingling or burning sensations, which are normal). Before the dreaded extraction they put a mask on you and then cover your face in plastic and a hot towel, if you’re claustrophobic you may want to warn your esthetician. You have a hole over your nose and mouth but I could see why Aura warned me before. This opens your skin up and gets it ready for extraction.
Next came the extraction. Considering that “every pore on my face was clogged,” the fact that I thought she was gentle should tell you something. Basically extraction is squeezing spots and blackheads, which is uncomfortable but necessary. Gotta get this face flawless by the wedding in May!
Once the extraction was over there is an oxygen blast of air, which was so refreshing it had me envisioning stealing some granny’s oxygen machine. This marked the end of the treatment but I wish I could have stayed all day.
Aftermath? Not gonna lie, I have some red spots on my face right now. I definitely am glad to be staying in and blogging in the privacy of my own home.
The treatment is 75 minutes long and costs $160, so it ain’t cheap ladies. However, it makes an amazing gift and I think it’s the perfect facial for brides to be.

So, what the eff do you do if you can’t afford it right now? Or what can you do in between when you can’t afford to come in? The Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask is a fan favorite and will help refresh your skin in a few minutes. Molly Sims and Liv Tyler love this and if it’s good enough for Liv, I’m in. This mask also acts as an antibacterial treatment to keep your breakouts to a minimum. The Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask is $52 and lasts for about 6 months (pretty reasonable).
I will absolutely be returning in a few weeks to get my skin wedding-ready for my big day. I am also considering the micro-dermabrasion treatment so I will keep you posted on how that goes.

Made from Earth. Organic Skincare. Made with a Little Heaven.
Feb 26, 2011 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: Beauty, Health, Organic
On my everlasting quest to find a luxurious skincare line that is also organic I have gotten one step closer. Made From Earth is a great holistic skincare line. So many other "organic" skincare lines out there use organic ingredients and then mix them with chemicals for preservation. I love feeling completely safe when I use these products.
A study, reported in the January 2004 edition of the Journal of Applied Toxicology, found parabens to be the most common cosmetic preservative present in significant amounts in 18 out of 20 breast cancer tumors. Kim Erickson, author of Drop Dead Gorgeous, states, “Cosmetic chemicals accumulate in the body’s fatty tissues, where they can remain for years and damage your cells.” We only use natural ingredients to preserve our precious organic ingredients – and we found our natural preservatives are even great for your skin, like Jojoba and Vitamin E.
Made From Earth selects only the highest potency organic ingredients for their products. All their ingredients / plants are from certified organic farms. There are no potentially toxic ingredients in their products. There is no synthetic coloring agents or fragrances, or paraffin and other petroleum products are permitted. Preservatives from synthetic sources are not permitted, such as Parabens (propyl, methyl and ethyl). They are 100% farmed and sourced in the USA. Their unique organic ingredients product development teams have put together the purest and most potent organic ingredients, which include organic juices, aloe vera, honey, natural botanicals, and natural plant oils.
My favorite product I've used so far is the Green Tea Cleanser

The main ingredient in in this, shockingly is Green Tea. Green Tea is a base antioxidant. This healthy cleanser is enhanced with vitamins A, B, C and E. Since it contains no chemicals, the cleanser is hypoallergenic and non-irritating for people with sensitive skin. The Aloe Vera base in the cleanser combines with Green Tea to provide an antioxidant boost to remove free radicals restoring healthier skin. This product does not contain the typical surfactant or detergent ingredient that most cleansing gels contain; it is a chemical-free gentle cleanser.

My other favorite product in the collection is the Grapefruit Glycolic Scrub. This scrub gently exfoliates with the power of grapefruit, which contains powerful antioxidants for fighting free radical damage that ages skin prematurely. It is formulated with gentle, organic jojoba exfoliants and anti-wrinkle emollients that reveal a smoother, renewed complexion. The soothing grapefruit helps to heal surface impurities with its high concentration of Vitamin C, also creating balanced PH for your skin.
*Smartypanties was sent these samples to try for purposes of a potential review but as always we never let that sway our opinion.
Givenchy Spring 2011 Collection: Naivement Couture.
Feb 25, 2011 Author: Katie Lara | Filed under: BeautyI am loving this tangerine-based collection. We think it's just peachy keen jelly bean.
The Magic Khol eyeliner is particularly wonderful. It glides on so effortlessly.
This palette is a bit Fall for my springy tastes but they do look fabulous on, especially on darker skin tones. (Especially compared to those easter egg shades that many companies turn to for spring collections that make everyone's eyes look a bit 80s-ish)
If you have the skin tone to pull off the Tangerine on the left then the more power to you! It's a gorgeous color.
